Tri-Creek District's Pinewood Derby Rules
The rules for construction, included in each kit, will be
enforced. Especially weight. The original body, wheels and axles
must be used. Add-ons to the block are allowed. Ensure that any
decorations added to the car are firmly attached. Any parts,
including wheels that fall off during the racing will not be re-
attached. Axles are allowed to be modified per any of the
current tips books available. Length of the body is not
especially critical because kits have been issued with the block
cut too long in years past. Pay particular attention to the car
and track clearance measurement.
Here are some additional clarifications. If they are violated
the car will be disqualified.
1. The wheel-base must remain stock. It will be checked.
2. The wheel tread must not be altered. No tapers of any kind.
3. No moving weights of any kind, i.e. mercury capsules.
4. No magnets are allowed.
A sticker will be placed on the car upon submission for
inspection to track the cars' progress, through inspection. Make
sure the car is "race ready" before you submit it for
inspection. You will have three attempts to pass inspection. If
the car fails inspection the third
time it is automatically disqualified. Once the car passes
inspection it will be assigned a number and placed in a holding
area until race time. Only the course workers will be allowed to
handle the cars, after the car passes inspection. No boys will
be allowed inside the racing area. Our wish is to control the
chaos. Our plan is to have a fun run track available for the
boys to run their cars once they've been eliminated.
The cars will be raced by rank. The top cars from there are
to be raced against each other to determine the overall winner.
Awards will be given for the top three finishers by rank and the
top three over all. There will not be any styling awards given.
The main event track will have a computer based racing
system. If at all possible all tracks used will be. The purpose
is to ensure the maximum amount of racing and also that it will
be as fair as possible.
